Cyprus is an island in the Mediterranean that has been divided into two parts since July 20th, 1974, when Turkey intervened as a guarantor, resulting in 38% of the island coming under the control of the Turkish Cypriots. The latter founded the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The territory is divided into two areas, separated by a United Nations-supervised security zone known as the Green Line. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is a state recognized by Turkey.
Currently, the island is divided into two regions:
TURKISH REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN CYPRUS: In this region, surrogacy is not banned, unlike in Turkey, its neighboring country, where it is prohibited.
SOUTH CYPRUS:: An altruistic law governs surrogacy here. This means that the surrogate mother cannot receive any compensation. It is only allowed for heterosexual couples with medical issues that prevent them from having children.
So what does the agency offering Cyprus as a great destination for surrogacy for single men propose?:
a) Carry out an in vitro fertilization process, between the intended father (you) and the surrogate mother, as if you were a couple.
b) The child is born in Northern Cyprus.
c) It is registered in South Cyprus.
d) Or born and registered in a European country that does not have a surrogacy law.
e) Or be born and registered in a country such as Czech Republic, or another European country.
The fact that IVR is done in one country is registered (we will not go into the details of the illegal way in which this is done) in another country is a very serious crime. This only affects the parents, since the clinic is limited to just giving birth to a child. Furthermore, given where the birth took place, there is no law that allows singles to have a child through surrogacy, the gestational mother will always be the mother of the baby. There is no law that allows her to give it up, and she can if she wishes. It makes the future as a parent very uncertain and complicated.
It is only a matter of time before a scandal breaks out, like what happened in the Czech Republic in March 2022 where Interpol intervened.
